De Man Zonder Schaduw is one of the key players in the Dutch house- and techno scene in the year 2010. Based in Amsterdam he runs a series of projects of which the GZG raves and his monthly Sunday Spirit at Studio 80 are most important. After starting off with focusing on the local underground he has now evolved into a national player with several residencies and a kick-off in the international field. And whether it’s in Amsterdam or in St. Petersburg, De Man Zonder Schaduw has always proved to be a genuine performer who’s at his best behind the decks and in control of the night.
GZG started off in 2004 as an underground organisation doing parties at warehouses, boats, camping sites and so on. Their mission has always been to bring back the pure spirit of house culture into the scene, most importantly, by organising raves at unusual locations. Five years on this is still the game for GZG, however, their popularity has grown and these days they even have a festival of their own. As the front man and resident DJ of this collective, this background has made him develop a completely own style in which catching the crowd is a must. Musically, he has created a unique sound balancing between house and techno. In his own words: ‘an aggressive sound with an elegant touch’.
Next to the raves, De Man Zonder Schaduw also got active in the club circuit in 2008. He started off a monthly night in the renowned Studio 80: Sunday Spirit. At the time, it was the first Sunday in the club but after a slow start it became a big success that’s running for over a year now. Several highlights followed such as the 8-hour marathon set in (Mai 2009) and the legendary ADE Closing, where he played a back-to-back set with Karotte that resulted in a prize for ‘Ultimate Set 2009’ at the Gouden Kabouter Awards. Right now, the first steps are being taken to take the Sunday concept abroad, with Duisburg (D) as the first destination.
The international agenda of The Man With No Shadow has started off quite good anyway. After doing a 4-gig tour in Berlin in 2008 (Tresor, Golden Gate, Centrum, SO36), international aspirations really took off when he was invited to join Sensation in playing for their Deluxe Areas on a great deal of their 2009 world tour. This has led him to Copenhagen (Denmark), Madrid (ES), St. Petersburg (R), Dusseldorf (D) and Hasselt. Upon this, 2010 will bring a new festival by GZG, different international spots and his best festival season to date. Altogether, it keeps being carnival for De Man Zonder Schaduw weekly. And that’s a good thing, because if someone’s at his place behind the decks it’s him!
